July 1st: Hanshin Tigers vs. Chunichi Dragons

Yesterday was my first game at Koshien (甲子園), the iconic baseball stadium half-way between Osaka and Kobe, home to the Hanshin Tigers (阪神タイガース).

Having previously lived in France and Ireland, baseball was not really something I really considered looking into, but I really took a liking to it on my first trip to Japan in 2007. I have followed the Hanshin Tigers since then, so it was nice to finally get a chance to see them.

It turned to be a very enjoyable game, ending with a 5-1 victory over Chunichi Dragons (中日ドラゴンズ).

I took a fair amount of photos, and selected a few to post here.
It would be too long to fully describe all of them here, but please feel free to click on them, (as you will be taken, as usual, to the Flickr page, which may contain more details).

Tigers pitchers Andoh and Nishimura:

Toritani beating the Chunichi defense and making it to first base:

Murton at the plate while Toritani and Hirano are on base (2nd and 1st, respectively):

Tigers in defense (Johjima catching, and a double play):

Arai hits:

Brazell and Arai:

Johjima, (and team-mates congratulating him after his home run):

If you want to know exactly how the game went, you should check the Tiger Tails blog for a full summary of this one as well as all other Hanshin games. A great resource!

I hope to go to Koshien again very soon, but in the meantime you can expect more Japan-themed posts here. The matsuri season is just starting! :)
