Statues and temples

San'en-zan Zōjō-ji (三縁山増上寺) is a well-known temple in Tokyo's Minato ward, no far from Tokyo Tower. One of the things I like most about this temple are the Jizō statues.


 



This divinity is considered the guardian of children, especially those who died before their parents (including stillborn).
These statues are often seen wearing children-like clothing.
I did not get a chance to visit that temple this year (the pictures above are from April 2007), but I think some of the statues I saw in Kyoto, at Kiyomizu-dera (清水寺), have a similar meaning.
